Clean your gutters:
Gutters are a highly important part of your roofing system. As soon as you see leaves accumulating, it is time to take a ladder and do some cleaning. If you are not comfortable 
with this procedure, there are many professionals to call. If you fail to do this, the leaves could prevent water from exiting your roof and the added weight could eventually do damage to your gutters, roof, trim, and siding.
Clear off debris:
If you observe leaves in your gutters, chances 
are there also some building up on your roof. Objects such as leaves, twigs, and pine needles can bring about serious roof damage as the highly coarse materials can scrape and damage shingles. Additionally, these materials can absorb large amounts of water creating added weight and facilitating mold growth.
Check for damage:
Following a visual inspection, you may realize that there are a number of damaged shingles on your roof. Curling or cracking shingles need to be replaced. This doesn’t necessarily mean a full re-roof as it is possible to replace just a few shingles to improve roof performance in harsh weather conditions. You will also want to look around vent stacks, chimneys, and skylights for damaged flashing.
That’s Not All Folks…
While these three steps are the most vital, there are a couple of additional steps you
can take in order to even better safeguard your home from the potential problems that the changing weather conditions might bring. These include:
-Adding extra insulation to your attic or upper crawlspace. This will prevent the formation of ice dams on your roof.
-Installing leaf guards on the gutters to prevent more falling leaves from accumulating and ruining the results of your hard cleaning work.
-Checking your attic, upper crawlspace, or upstairs ceiling for stains and potential 
leaks. If you aren’t sure about leaks after this initial inspection, perform a follow up directly following a rainstorm. If anything feels damp, call a professional roofer or immediately repair the leaking area.
