3 Things To Ask Your Orting Roofer

Roofers Orting
We are a BBB accredited roofer with an A+ rating.

There are 3 questions you should ask the roofing contractors you are interviewing. Any honest business will have no problem providing proper credentials to establish their legitimacy.

1) Are you licensed, bonded and insured?

Any Orting roofing company you consider hiring must be licensed, boned and insured. If they are not legally registered with the state of Washington as a roofing contractor they have no business performing work on your home! If they are not insured to perform the type of work you need you are not protected and you are at risk of being responsible for any job related accidents that take place on your property. Ask the representative you are interviewing to provide proof of these 3 criteria.

2) How long have you been in business?

This question is very important. A roofer that has been around for many years has made it over the statistical mountain that has sunk 80 of contractors. The rule of thumb is hire someone who has been in business for at least 5 years. This is also critical due to the fact that if the contractor that installed your roof in Orting goes out of business you no longer have a workmanship warranty. If something goes wrong on your roof the contractor is no longer responsible for fixing it as they are not in business.

3) Get clarity on what is and is not included in the proposal.

A legitimate roofer should provide you with a clear scope of work and pricing. Gray areas are usually the number one cause of price discrepancies. A contract should break down into line items what the roofer is planning to do. There should be a provision for unforseen issues like rotten sheathing and framing that cannot be determined until the roofing is removed. Another important equation is how much will extra work that is not in the contract cost? Getting numbers like this before hand can save unfair charges and keep things fair.

  1. The new home that my sister moved into has a lot of problems. She is worried about the condition of it and would love having a contractor check it out. It might help her to check the proposal several times over for unforeseen issues.

    1. Yes this is very important. If she compares the different proposals she receives and can even call the technical service line for the manufacturers to ask questions. We’ve known homeowners who thought they were getting generally the same roofing proposal from different contractors yet when we dug into the details they turned out to be very different.
