The city of University Place and the Chambers Bay Golf Course did not disappoint players or fans at this year’s exhilarating U.S. Open. The crowd was typical for a Washington sporting event and the cheers, screams, and good times were not in short supply. Our lead project manager, Joel, was lucky enough to attend the event, and his personal accounts as well the documentation of the happenings all over Puget Sound area businesses and restaurants, ensured nobody would be exempt from the festivities. Traffic and security were very well taken care of so the Open brought nothing but excitement and pride in our city for the residing fans of the small and beautiful University Place.
Spieth, 21, Comes out Victorious!
Coming out on top at the end of the weekend of valiant efforts from all participants, was 21 year old Jordan Spieth. The effort and likely endless practice time was well worth the reward as Spieth came out of the tournament 10 million dollars richer! The final moments before his big win had fans on the edge of their seats as Dustin Johnson needed to make one putt to win it all and the second to tie and mandate a playoff game the following day. However, after Johnson three-putted the last from 12 feet, Spieth reigned victorious at the biggest golf event of the year. In a touching acceptance speech, Spieth proclaimed he had wanted to hand his father the U.S. Open
Trophy his entire life and the concurrence of his win and Father’s Day provided him with the perfect opportunity. Spieth, who is on course to become the first ever player to win all four majors in one calendar year, is the youngest player to win the U.S. Open since Bobby Jones in 1923. Though the complaints of some players about the course being too difficult permeated throughout the tournament, those who performed well had even more pride in themselves knowing they completed such a tricky and challenging course. Congratulations to Spieth and all the players!!! Further congratulations to the city of University Place and the incredible amounts of successful efforts to put on such a huge event! The event brought much excitement to our small, quaint residence and the U.S. Open will be an integral part of our city’s history for many years to come!
