Contributing to the ongoing advancement of the roofing industry.
Now over 145 active members strong, the the Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress started in 1996. It was established within the National Roofing Foundation to serve as a resource for the roofing industry, and its customers, through an endowment fund. Every year, Alliance grows stronger, improving the roofing industry by funding research, advancing the education of future roofing professionals, and leading the way in economic and technological issues.
Core Values:
Education and Training:
Alliance has a history of commitment to education, training and scholarships, helping to shape the future of the roofing industry. When Alliance was established, one of its principal fundraisers was, at that time, the president of the NRCA. Now, the scholarship program is name after him, recognizing his achievements in the raising of money for the education programs in the roofing industry. The Melvin Kruger Endowed Scholarship Program Campaign provides scholarships to college and vocational-technical school students who plan to continue on to careers in the roofing and building construction industries.
Technology: Alliance serves as a collective forum of industry professionals including roofing contractors, manufactures, and distributors. This collective contributes to technological advances in the roofing industry by selecting and overseeing, as well as funding several research programs. One of these programs include NRCA’s Energy Wise Online Calculator, which will be adding new codes through at least 2017 thanks to the more than $16,000 commitment that Alliance has made to the program.
Sustainability: Along with taking the lead on technological advances, another core value of the Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress is to advocate for environmentally sustainable designs. In 2012, the Center for Environmental Innovation in Roofing launched RoofPoint, which Alliance is an enthusiastic supporter. This is a voluntary, consensus-based sustainable/green roof rating system developed by the center to help building owners and designers select nonresidential roof systems based on long-term energy and environmental benefits.
Philanthropy:
Another one of the core values of Alliance is to be able to give back to the community. One way that we already talked about is through scholarships, but they have recently expanded their funding initiative to “Help Our Own”. Families in life-altering circumstances, such as loss of a bread winner, severe injury or illness, can be nominated for help. There is no set limit for funding, as life altering events may require substantial assistance. As they avoid giving away cash, the following are the type of assistance that this program distributes: Bill pay assistance, disaster relief in the way of renovation or reconstruction, disability accommodations, supply of material and payment of labor, supply of equipment (medical, household), supply of services (in-home medical, therapeutic).
