The month of June is upon us and the excitement is building for the commencement of
the U.S. Open right at Chambers Bay golf course in University Place. Practice rounds will begin on the 15th and competitive play will follow on the 18th. Golf Superstars such as Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson have already begun to scope out and practice on the course! How exciting!!
A Challenging, Versatile Course
For the first time in U.S. Open history, two holes will change in par from one round to the next. Success then all depends upon the wind, the scoring, and the USGA executive director, Mike Davis. These factors as well as a newly installed back tee and the presence of a prominent embankment on the course will pose challenges for even the most skilled professionals, just as the course was designed to do. The course has been preparing for this event for over a year and the beauty and professionalism
with which it was enacted is indisputable. The small, quaint town of University Place is in for a week to remember with the ability to rent out their homes for guests and affiliates to stay in, and the ability to go have lunch at the golf course down the street and be met with Tiger Woods, his posse, and endless camera crews. With 16 players qualifying for the honor to play and vying for the $9 million dollars in prize money, excitement will not be in short supply at this event. All experts agree that Chambers Bay will offer a unique, experience due to its links-style that can be played so many different ways.
