A New Metal Roof In Kent, WA
Recently we had the opportunity to transform a beautiful home in Kent using the EDCO Generations in the color cedar. Arriving at the property, we instantly knew that a full roof replacement was necessary to restore this beautiful home to its former glory. After several material samples and quotes, the homeowner decided upon EDCO Generations, and we could not be happier that they did! The steep pitch of this roof made it difficult to maintain over the years, and surpassing the 30 year mark, well let’s just say that it was a relief to the homeowner to get this project underway! Material was ordered, safety checks took place, and our crew was ready to begin!
A New Roofing System
We started by tearing off a very old and rotted layer of cedar roofing that had reached the end of it’s life. We then proceeded to re-sheet the entire roof over the existing skip-sheathing in order to create a solid sub straight to lay down the new roofing system. Next came the ice and water shield that was applied around the perimeter edge of the roof, which helps prevent leaks due to ice-damming in the gutters, and wind-driven rain. Malarkey hybrid synthetic, breathable underlayment was then laid down for quality roof deck protection. The crew proceeded to grind out the existing counter flashing around the chimney and replaced it with new. We also had a flat section on the garage, our crew installed DensDeck roof board to create a smooth solid surface to apply the GAF 60 mil TPO. This combination created a complete roof system with a class A fire rating. The existing existing skylight was formatted for shake roofing and was incompatible with the new metal roof system, so the crew heighten the curbs and installed new TAM skylights.
